Cozy + Minimalism, Budget friendly + Custom

Two contradictory ideas are harmoniously demonstrated in this project. Calm, simple color palettes have tendencies to be a bit bland and flat. In order to bring dimension into a minimalist space, the introduction of texture often brings stunning results. This is a relatively large kitchen for single living, and based on my client’s storage needs, we were able to eliminate all the upper cabinets on the cooktop wall and open up the kitchen for a more spacious feel. Fewer cabinets afforded our client to purchase better finishes. As this beautiful wall was exposed, it became the perfect blank canvas for subtle drama and great texture. We were lucky to find an amazing large format porcelain wall tile at HomeDepot which allowed us to amp up the design without breaking the bank. In order to maintain continuity and flow between the living space and kitchen without carrying the wood floor into the kitchen for cleaning and maintenance reasons, we opted for a large format wood printed porcelain tile whose color intentionally matched the main wood floor. A subtle and elegant way to tie the two spaces together!
